"Our Bond Remains Unshakable" — Datti Baba-Ahmed Dismisses Rumors of Rift With Peter Obi

Ahead of potential alignments for the 2027 general elections, the Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has firmly dismissed mounting speculation of a political rift between himself and his principal, Peter Obi. Speaking authoritatively on the stability of their political partnership, Datti declared that no external force or internal intrigue could successfully drive a wedge between them, reaffirming their shared commitment to their political movement.

Baba-Ahmed made this statement on Sunday during an interview on ‘Inside Source’ with Laolu Akande, a programme on Channels Television.

He was speaking on the speculation that he has fallen out with the former Anambra state governor.

“Let me say that nobody will cause a problem between me and my boss, Peter Obi.

“He can be in any party today. I still have respect for him as someone who governed Anambra State, as someone who doesn’t give the ‘shi-shi’, and we have mutual respect for each other, so nobody will come between us,” he said.

Recall that he was the running mate to Peter Obi, who was the presidential candidate of Labour Party in 2023.

However, ahead of the 2027 general elections, the duo parted ways to different political parties.

While he left for the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, Peter Obi defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, and he is the party’s presidential candidate ahead of next year’s general elections.
