Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, has said that ending insecurity in Nigeria will require both divine help and collective efforts from citizens and security agencies.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, he said the security crisis affects all Nigerians regardless of political or religious differences and called for unity in addressing the problem.
“It’s disheartening, and we must all rise to ensure that security agencies and Nigerians work together to end insecurity in the country. Insecurity does not discriminate based on political affiliation or religion. It can affect anyone,” he said.
Matawalle also accused opposition politicians of politicising the situation instead of supporting efforts to tackle it.
“That is why we have urged the opposition to stop using insecurity to incite people… Unfortunately, some members of the opposition appear pleased with the situation,” he said.
He added that defeating insecurity requires both human effort and prayers, stressing that no group can solve it alone.
“It is only God that can bring an end to this insecurity, alongside our collective prayers and efforts. It should not be used as a tool to condemn others or score political points,” he stated.
The minister further claimed that old and foreign videos are being circulated online to wrongly portray the government as failing on security.
“There are fake and recycled videos being circulated… yet they are being presented as incidents that occurred under this administration. That is not true,” he said.
He assured that security forces are actively working to counter terr%rism and noted that insecurity is a global challenge, not unique to Nigeria.
“Our security operatives are working tirelessly across the country… Even some of the world’s powerful nations have battled insecurity for years,” he added.
He urged Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies and praying for peace.
