Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information at Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters, has d+ed while in the custody of bandits, the Katsina State Government has confirmed.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Muazu, the government said the retired military officer d+ed from complications related to diabetes and hypertension during his captivity.
His de@th comes days after a viral video surfaced showing the retired general and his abd¥cted wife appealing to the Katsina State Government to meet the k+dnappers demands to secure their release.
Describing the incident as a tragic loss, the state government said extensive efforts by security agencies and the government to rescue him were unsuccessful.
“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the General’s de@th while in bandits’ captivity. Despite the relentless and concerted efforts of the State Government and various security agencies to secure his safe release, the situation ended in this tragedy,” the statement read.
The government noted that the late general’s abd¥ction and de@th represent a significant loss to his family, Katsina State, and Nigeria.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda extended condolences to the deceased’s family and described the incident as a p@inful reminder of the growing security challenges facing the country.
He stressed the need for stronger collaboration and a more coordinated response against criminal groups threatening peace and security across communities.
