Author Mervis Elebe has shared her personal experience with P-Square, claiming she witnessed the family’s opposition to Peter Okoye’s relationship with Lola.
Elebe said she met the brothers in 2008 when she was 17 and visited their Omole, Lagos home because she was a huge fan.
“I was such a huge fan of P-Square. I was hoping to see them. I had a CD. I was hoping to get an autograph.”
She said Jude connected her with their cousin, who lived in the house, and she later became familiar with the family. According to her, Peter was already dating Lola but they temporarily broke up, after which he began dating a beauty queen she declined to name the woman featured in Ifunanya.
Elebe claimed Lola later told Peter she was pregnant and only wanted him to know, but he insisted on supporting her.
She said Peter’s family opposed Lola because she was older and Yoruba, despite Lola allegedly supporting P-Square’s career.
“His family did not like Lola at all. Because, number one, she’s older than him, and because she was Yoruba.”
Elebe recalled witnessing Peter argue with the beauty queen over Lola.
“I remember I was in the house that Peter and the beauty queen were actually fighting over this,” adding that the woman said, “She’s a grown-a+s woman, she can take care of herself.”
Elebe said Peter insisted he had to be there for Lola because she was the mother of his child. She recalled later meeting Lola after she returned from the US and Peter proudly referring to their son Cameron.
Elebe concluded that the family’s opposition was obvious even to her as a teenager.
“Jude cannot come and say that he never h@ted Lola, because even to me, as just a random guest in the house, it was so clear that he did not like her. The family did not like her.”
She added, “ He never supported the marriage from day one and they made that very, very clear.”
Elebe said she was speaking because P-Square had been close to her heart since she was young and prayed for Peter amid the feud.
