The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected merchants of human parts and recovered suspected human body parts and charms during an intelligence-led operation in the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Saturday in Ibadan.
According to him, the suspects were arrested following several months of intelligence gathering and discreet surveillance by operatives of the command’s monitoring unit.
He said the suspects were apprehended at separate hideouts in the Iseyin and Saki areas of the state.
Ayanlade disclosed that police operatives searched the hideouts after the arrests and recovered several suspected human parts, including one suspected human he@rt, human fl£sh and pieces of a human sk¥ll, alongside assorted charms.
He said the recovered exhibits had been secured for forensic examination and further investigation, while the suspects were assisting investigators in determining the source, procurement and intended use of the items.
The police spokesman added that efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the alleged syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Olugbenga assured residents that the command remained committed to tackling cr+minal activities in the state and protecting human life.
