Edo Govt Bans Davido From Performing in State for Remainder of Gov. Okpebholo’s Administration over his publication of a WASSCE result full of D7s

The Edo State Government has declared that Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, is no longer welcome to perform in the state for the remainder of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration.

The governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media, Apostle Kassy Chukwu, made the declaration in a video shared by Peniel TV International, Benin City, on Thursday, amid the ongoing public feud between Davido and Okpebholo.

According to Chukwu, the singer was “banned” from performing in Edo over comments he made about the governor and his family during the political dispute that followed the recent Osun State governorship election.
“You have been banned from coming to Edo State to perform. We don’t want to see you in Edo again,” Chukwu said.

He accused Davido of disrespecting the governor and claimed that many youths in Edo were angered by the singer’s remarks.
“Edo youths are angry. They said if they catch you again, nobody should bring Davido to come and perform in any place again in Edo State,” he added.

Chukwu also accused Davido of circulating a manipulated version of Okpebholo’s West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result online and warned him against repeating such posts.

The controversy began during the build-up to the August 15 Osun governorship election, after Okpebholo criticised Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke, Davido’s uncle, over his dancing style and conduct in office while campaigning in the state.

Davido subsequently shared what he described as Okpebholo’s WAEC result on his Instagram Story, sparking reactions online.

The singer later defended the post during an interview, saying he had no reason to apologise. He argued that he only showed Osun residents the academic record of a governor who travelled to campaign against his uncle and also questioned Okpebholo’s decision to leave Edo for the election campaign.
