2027: Atiku challenges Tinubu to presidential debate
Candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has made his participation in presidential debates ahead of the 2027 general elections conditional on the attendance of President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Atiku’s position was contained in a statement issued by his official spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, on Tuesday.
According to Okonkwo, presidential debates should provide an opportunity for both the ruling party and opposition parties to present their policies and programmes to Nigerians.
He criticised the practice of organising debates involving only opposition candidates, describing it as “untenable” and accusing the APC-led administration of using such platforms to create divisions among opposition parties while avoiding scrutiny.
