I Have Lived in My House for 36 Years; Maintaining Me and My Daughters Is Not Expensive, We Live a Very Modest Lifestyle — Billionaire Aliko Dangote

Nigerian billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote has said one or two of his three daughters could eventually lead the Dangote Group, noting that they are deeply interested in the family business.

Dangote made this known while discussing his daughters, whom he described as his “Amazons,” and their roles in the business.

Asked if he could see one of them eventually leading the group, he said, “I think yes. I can see one of them, definitely. You know, I mean, I’m watching all of them, but so I can see definitely one or two of them that can actually lead. Any one of them that can lead this.”

He said he does not force his daughters to join the business, stressing that they genuinely enjoy it.

“I’m not forcing them to come and be part of this business. No. They are very interested in business. They enjoy it.”

Dangote also said he has advised them not to make money their focus, explaining that his family lives a modest lifestyle.

“What I keep telling them is that, look, let’s not focus on money. This is not about money. We are not very expensive people, and maintaining us is not expensive. Both me, my daughters, and my family, we are very, very down to earth.”

He revealed that he has lived in his current home for 36 years and has no plans to leave.

“I don’t plan on leaving. I’m very comfortable here. Once I come in the evening, it’s difficult to take me out of my house.”

Dangote also recalled buying his first aircraft at 22, four months before turning 23, but said his desired legacy is the industrialisation of Africa.

“But my own real legacy, what do I want to leave as a legacy, is the industrializing of Africa. I mean, I cannot do it alone, but I’m 100% sure in the next two, three years other Africans will join me. And once they join, then the wagon will leave the station.”
