Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged residents of Akwa Ibom State to support President Bola Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno in the 2027 elections.
Akpabio made the call on Wednesday in Uyo during an event to mark the 39th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State’s creation. He described Tinubu as a “friend of the South-South” and expressed confidence that the President would receive “maximum victory” from the region and other parts of Nigeria in 2027.
He also called on residents to place the progress of Akwa Ibom above partisan politics and support continuity in the state’s development. Akpabio commended Eno for what he described as sustaining the state’s development through the ARISE Agenda, particularly in areas such as peace, rural development, economic growth and the welfare of residents.
The Senate President said Akwa Ibom had made significant progress since its creation in 1987, attributing the achievements to the resilience and contributions of its people. He said the people remained the state’s greatest resource.
Akpabio also reflected on his tenure as governor, saying the infrastructure, institutions and human-capital investments made under his administration provided a foundation for subsequent governments. He said his administration demonstrated what could be achieved when leaders combined vision with courage and used public resources for the benefit of the people.
He urged Akwa Ibom residents to use the anniversary as an opportunity to reflect on the state’s achievements and consider how to create more opportunities for young people, businesses and innovation.
