The Enugu State Forest Guard has foiled a planned kidn@pping by a suspected cross-state cr+minal syndicate allegedly travelling from Nasarawa State with the assistance of local informants.
The operation reportedly followed the detection of suspicious movements by state surveillance cameras, which alerted nearby security teams to the gang’s activities.
According to preliminary security reports, the armed suspects had travelled from Nasarawa State to Enugu to carry out a targeted abd¥ction, allegedly working with local accomplices who provided information and assistance on the ground.
However, surveillance cameras captured the gang’s movements and tactical positioning, enabling Forest Guard operatives to mobilise and intercept them before they could abd¥ct their intended victims.
On arriving at the scene, the operatives reportedly engaged the suspects in a brief g¥n duel, during which one member of the alleged kidn@pping syndicate was sh%t de@d.
Other members of the gang were subdued and arrested, including suspected local collaborators who allegedly assisted the planned operation.
Security personnel also recovered we@pons and other operational items from the scene. The intervention reportedly prevented the abd¥ction and ensured that the targeted civilians were not inj¥red.
The arrested suspects have since been handed over to the Enugu State Police Command for further interrogation and investigation, including efforts to uncover the syndicate’s wider network and establish the extent of its alleged activities across Nasarawa and Enugu states.
