Arise News Political Editor, Sumner Sambo, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the alleged one-term agreement being discussed ahead of the 2027 presidential election, declaring that Peter Obi would seek a second term if he becomes president.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, Sambo argued that there would be nothing to prevent Obi from contesting for another four years after completing his first tenure.
According to the political editor, the suggestion that Obi would serve for only one term and hand over power to another person is unrealistic.
“Nothing will stop Peter Obi from seeking a second term if he wins. He will betray a one-term pact,” Sambo declared.
He explained that Nigeria’s Constitution gives an elected president the right to seek re-election for a second term, stressing that no political understanding or gentleman’s agreement could prevent Obi from exercising that constitutional right.
Sambo further argued that politicians who eventually attain presidential power often develop an interest in seeking another term, adding that Obi would not be an exception.
