66% of Nigerians voted against Tinubu in 2023 — Makinde claims as he calls for electoral law review

Oyo State Governor and 2027 presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has called for a review of Nigeria’s electoral process, proposing that presidential candidates should secure at least 50 per cent plus one of the total votes cast to emerge as winners.

Citing the 2023 presidential election, he said President Bola Tinubu secured slightly more than 34 per cent of the total votes cast, arguing that the majority of Nigerians voted against the current administration.

He maintained that requiring presidential candidates to secure at least 50 per cent plus one of the votes would give elected leaders a broader mandate and strengthen public acceptance of their governments.
