You can’t stop them. Jonathan has no issues in the South-Sast and South-South, even with Obi-PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has agreed to several key demands from former Rivers State governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in a bid to ease internal tensions and boost its prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Party insiders told Vanguard in Abuja that the move is part of a wider plan to restore unity and settle long-standing disagreements. Wike, considered one of the PDP’s most influential figures, had insisted on three main conditions: zoning the party’s presidential ticket to the South, confirming Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, and strictly adhering to the traditional zoning rotation between the South-South and South-East.

Sources within the PDP confirmed that the leadership has now accepted all of Wike’s terms, which they believe removes the main reasons for his resistance to the party’s direction. The leadership has decided to meet all of Wike’s conditions… At this point, there’s no reason for him to keep opposing the party,” one senior member said.

This decision comes amid growing concerns over divisions in the PDP following the decline of the once-powerful G5 governors’ group formed before the 2023 elections to push for leadership reforms. Initially made up of Wike (Rivers), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo), the group has now dwindled to three, with only Ugwuanyi and Ikpeazu still aligned with Wike. Their political influence, however, has significantly reduced.

Observers see the concession to Wike as a calculated step to prevent defections and secure PDP’s stronghold in the South-South and South-East, where he still commands considerable support. This will be especially important during the party’s November convention, where zoning and leadership matters will be finalised.
