Hon. Idris Wase has warned that the government’s directive to withdraw police protection from VIPs could inadvertently trigger a rise in k+dn@ppings if not carefully managed. He emphasized that the law should focus on those who exploit police escorts to facilitate criminal activities rather than removing protection entirely.
He referenced recent videos of b+ndits threatening to target the president, politicians, and others, describing them as “all unrepentant.” He added, “Those of us from the north here, the heat is more than what you can think of,” underlining the acute security challenges in the region.
Hon. Wase also called for transparency on the order, noting that while it may be well-intentioned, its implementation needs to be clearly defined. “I want to appeal that that order needs to be revealed. It is a good order but the categorization has to be spelled out,” he said, stressing the importance of clarity to ensure public safety.
He further explained that tackling insecurity in the country requires decisive, well-communicated measures to prevent a worsening of the current b+nditry and k+dn@pping crisis.
