An Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ogbon-Inu Taiwo Popoola, has d+ed suddenly at the Ebonyi State Police Command in Abakaliki.
According to a police source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the incident occurred at about 11 a.m. on Tuesday while Popoola was attending a management meeting at the command headquarters.
The late officer, who was in charge of the State Intelligence Department before his d+ath, reportedly developed sudden breathing difficulties during the meeting and began gasping for air.
He was immediately rushed to the Police Medical Centre within the command, where medical personnel made efforts to revive him. However, he was later pronounced dead. Preliminary medical reports indicated that he d+ed from cardiac arrest linked to hypertensive heart disease.
It was gathered that his remains have been deposited at the morgue of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.
Confirming the incident, the police spokesperson in the state, DSP Joshua Ukandu, said the officer collapsed during the meeting and was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.
Ukandu added that Popoola had not shown any signs of illness before the incident, noting that he was a dedicated and professional officer who served the Nigeria Police Force with commitment.
