Israel is set to support Nigeria’s efforts to tackle insecurity and protect vulnerable Christian communities through intelligence sharing and strategic cooperation, Israel’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has revealed. The plan follows discussions led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Speaking in an interview with Arise TV News, Freeman said the initiative would be implemented in partnership with the Nigerian government and strictly within the bounds of Nigeria’s sovereignty. He stressed that Israel would only act in areas approved by Abuja.

“Our aim is to work with the Nigerian government,” Freeman said, noting that intelligence sharing and strategic cooperation are central to the proposed support. He added that Israel would be guided by Nigerian authorities on where collaboration is most appropriate.

Freeman explained that Israel’s involvement is not limited to the protection of Christians alone but is intended to address Nigeria’s broader security challenges, including terr+rism, insurgency, and vi%lent extremism across affected regions.

He also dismissed criticism suggesting that Netanyahu’s comments on protecting Christians abroad contradict Israel’s position on other conflicts, highlighting Israel’s record on religious freedom and the safety of Christian communities within its borders.

The move comes amid rising international concern over att@cks on Christian communities in Nigeria, with some advocacy groups describing the vi%lence as gen%cide or religious cleansing. While the Nigerian government maintains the crisis is rooted in wider security issues, Israel’s proposed intelligence cooperation has drawn attention as a potential boost to Nigeria’s efforts to combat insecurity.
