2027: “I Will Not Leave The Labour Party” — Former V.P Candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed Declares, Distancing Himself From Peter Obi’s Recent Move

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has declared that he will not defect from the party ahead of the 2027 general election, distancing himself from the recent political move made by Peter Obi.

Baba-Ahmed, 56, was Obi’s running mate during the 2023 presidential election, which the LP lost to Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Obi later exited the Labour Party two years after the election and aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a platform reportedly supported by a coalition seeking to challenge the ruling APC.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday at the Labour Party national secretariat in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed said he has no intention of following Obi to the ADC. He stated that he remains committed to the LP and believes the party is still a viable vehicle for national change.

The former Kaduna North lawmaker also expressed his readiness to play an active role in Nigeria’s future, pledging to make himself available to help fix the country in 2027. He added that he is unconvinced by the ADC, dismissing the coalition behind it as a group of “disgr¥ntled politicians.”
