President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady,, Oluremi has departed Abuja on Tuesday for a high-profile state visit to the United Kingdom, following an invitation from King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
The visit marks the first time in 37 years that a Nigerian leader will be hosted by a British monarch at Windsor Castle, underscoring efforts to strengthen ties between both nations. Discussions are expected to focus on trade, investment, immigration, and cultural exchange.

During the visit, King Charles III will host President Tinubu and his wife, with activities including a special Royal Collection exhibition highlighting Nigeria’s heritage. Both leaders will also hold private talks and engage with organisations promoting interfaith dialogue, ending with a State Banquet in honour of the Nigerian delegation.
President Tinubu is also scheduled to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street. The meeting is expected to produce several Memoranda of Understanding covering trade, defence, investment, and cultural cooperation.

A major highlight of the trip is a £746 million financing deal between UK Export Finance and Nigeria, aimed at refurbishing the Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and Tin Can Island Port—key infrastructure for boosting the country’s maritime trade.
The president will also attend a Nigerian Modernism exhibition showcasing contemporary art, and join a reception with business leaders and members of the diaspora, further strengthening economic and cultural ties between both countries.
