Peter Obi Has Pushed The Igbos 20 Years Backwards From Getting The Presidency – Hon. Maigari Reveals

A member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Legislators’ Forum, Hon. Kasimu Maigari, has stated that the political movement of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has negatively affected the South East’s long-standing ambition of producing Nigeria’s president.

Speaking on Monday during an interview on Arise Television, Maigari argued that rather than advancing the region’s presidential aspiration, Obi’s emergence and political direction have instead created what he described as a setback for the Igbo political project.

“Peter Obi has pushed Igbos 20 years backwards from getting the presidency. My worry is not if Peter Obi will win the presidency; my worry is that Peter Obi has pushed Igbos 20 years backwards from getting the presidency,” he said.

He further expressed doubts about Obi’s chances in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that his victory is unlikely and “very obvious.” According to him, many of those supporting Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso are driven more by personal political ambition than ideology.

“The only people who follow Obi and Kwankwaso are those who think they will rise on their backs to get elected and then defect and leave them,” he said.

Maigari maintained that such political alignments are often self-serving, with supporters allegedly seeking to leverage the popularity of the movements to secure elective positions before moving on to other parties.
