Wunmi Aloba, widow of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has accused her father-in-law, Joseph Aloba, of allegedly trying to cheat her over properties and royalties left behind by the singer.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Wunmi said the conflict between them worsened after Mohbad’s d+ath, adding that she expected more support from him as a father figure.
“It was unexpected so at first, when it happened, I called him and I was tense because I had never experienced such before,” she said. “He wasn’t saying what I hoped to hear, he was just talking about my husband’s property.”
She further stated, “I feel like he is trying to cheat me because he’s older than me and like a father figure. What he wants can never happen. He wants the DNA of my child to be negative. He wants to be in possession of the royalties.”
According to Wunmi, their relationship was once very cordial before disagreements began after the birth of their son, Liam.
“We used to be best of friends but we fell out after I had Liam due to naming ceremony issues and the fact that my husband forgave his mother. It was just a family feud that became something big and now, it is personal,” she explained.
Addressing the controversy surrounding Mohbad’s royalties, Wunmi said no one currently controls them because the late singer had an unresolved legal dispute with his former record label before his death. She explained that Mohbad’s lawyer appointed the singer’s brother and their son, Liam, while she acts on behalf of the child because he is still a minor.
She also alleged that Joseph Aloba later demanded access to the royalties while claiming she was not legally married to Mohbad, despite previously acknowledging their union.
