Ikwere People Have Ruled For 16 Yrs And Wike Wants To Bring Another One As If They Own Rivers-Igbe

Elder statesman and Niger Delta activist, Anabs Sara-Igbe, has criticised the alleged move by former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, to support another Ikwere candidate against Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 political contest in Rivers State.

Speaking during an interview on SYMFONI TV, Sara-Igbe argued that the Ikwere ethnic group had already governed Rivers State for 16 years and should not continue to dominate the state’s leadership. He noted that Governor Fubara is the first riverine governor in the current democratic era and should be allowed to complete his tenure without political intimidation.

Sara-Igbe said he was among those who previously supported the emergence of former governor Rotimi Amaechi despite opposition from some Rivers elders. According to him, the same support was later extended to Wike during his governorship bid.

The elder statesman also recalled that former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife supported Wike’s emergence despite resistance from some political stakeholders in the state.

Sara-Igbe accused Wike of turning against several individuals who helped him rise politically, describing him as someone known for betraying former allies. He maintained that Rivers politics should reflect fairness and equal representation for all ethnic groups in the state.

In his words, “Ikwere people have ruled for 16 years and you want to bring another Ikwere man again, as if Ikwere people own Rivers State. It’s not possible.”
