A Nigerian man has taken to social media to lament, what he called the the misogynistic practices that exist in African traditions and cultures as it affects him directly.
According to him, his mother got shortchanged on the bride price of her own daughter.
In most traditions, bride Price is when the family of the groom pay their future in-laws at the start of their marriage. The payment can be made up of money, presents, or a mixture of both. It’s sometimes paid in one go, but instalments aren’t uncommon.

Taking to social media, the young man with Twitter handle, @Chuki_emordi revealed that his sister’s bride price was paid to the tune of N300k, yet only a paltry sum of N5k was given to his mum who toiled for her daughter.
He wrote;
“Them pay my sister bride price almost 300k, na 5k reach my momsy hand, elders share the rest, so na the misogyny Ebele and Uloma dey talk since be this.
Elders wey I never see for my life dey call my sister their pikinWe need to dismantle this misogyny thing, assuming my momsy collects better money I for done see my share.
The male privilege no even reach my side and I dey fear to ask make them no send me go evil forest”
