The Katsina State Police Command has arrested two suspected car thieves who attempted to bribe officers with ₦1 million during a routine patrol.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the suspects — 26-year-old Mubarak Kabir and 27-year-old Adamu Hashim, both from Kurna quarters in Fagge LGA, Kano — were intercepted on April 11, 2025, around 3:00 PM in Birnin Kuka village, Mashi LGA.

Officers from Border Patrol Zone 4 flagged down a green Toyota Corolla LE driven by the suspects. Preliminary investigations revealed the vehicle had been stolen from Abuja. In a bid to avoid arrest, the suspects allegedly offered the officers ₦1 million in cash, which was firmly rejected.

Recovered items include the stolen vehicle, the cash bribe, three mobile phones, a power bank, and a bunch of keys.

An investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the suspects’ criminal activities. DSP Aliyu assured the public that further details will be released as the probe continues.

Commending the officers for their integrity, Commissioner of Police CP Bello Shehu reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to upholding professionalism, protecting lives and property, and respecting human rights.
