Ghana has been thrown into mourning following the de@ths of Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed in a military helicopter cr@sh in the Ashanti Region.
Government spokesperson Julius Debrah, who is also the Chief of Staff, confirmed the tragic incident during a press briefing, describing it as a “national tragedy.” Six others—comprising three crew members and three additional passengers also lost their lives in the crash.
The Ghana Armed Forces earlier reported that the helicopter, which departed Accra at 09:12 GMT en route to Obuasi for a national event, had gone off the radar before the cr@sh occurred. The cause of the crash remains unconfirmed.
In response, the government has ordered all national flags to be flown at half-mast in honour of the deceased. On behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the government, Debrah expressed heartfelt condolences, particularly to the fallen servicemen who died in active duty.
