Activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has responded to a lawsuit threat from former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, over alleged defamatory statements made on social media. Adeyanju insisted that Obi, being a public figure, must be open to criticism.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Adeyanju said, “If Peter Obi doesn’t want to be criticized, he should go back to his house and eat jollof rice. Anyone who puts themselves in public office must be criticized, scrutinized, and ins¥lted.”
Obi had threatened to take legal action against Adeyanju over several posts on X and Facebook, which his legal team described as false and defamatory.
In a letter from the law firm of Alex Ejesieme and Co., Adeyanju’s posts were referenced, where he allegedly labeled Obi “a religious bigot, a fra¥d, a product of bad upbringing, sc@m, and a th+ef.”
The letter demanded that Adeyanju immediately delete all such posts and issue a “full, unreserved, unqualified, and public apology” to Obi across his social media platforms and in three national newspapers.
