Former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has warned that prosperity teachings centred on “miracle money” without responsibility are hindering Nigeria’s development.
Speaking on “Church as a Responsible Pathfinder in Attaining the Nigeria of Our Dreams” alongside TREM’s Bishop Mike Okonkwo, Osinbajo urged churches to return to preaching integrity, diligence, and responsibility. He stressed that the true gospel builds societies by instilling honesty and productivity, not shortcuts.
Using Africa’s cocoa exports as an example, he noted that resource-rich nations stay poor by failing to add value, while foreign countries profit more through processing. He also pointed to the Puritans of Europe, who emphasised ethics and hard work, making corruption the exception. According to him, such values are the key to transforming Nigeria.
