Baba Ijesha Added to Lagos S+x Offenders Register After Release
Nollywood actor Olarenwaju James, better known as Baba Ijesha, has reportedly regained his freedom after the Court of Appeal overturned his conviction for the s+xual assa¥lt of a m+nor.
The actor was arrested in 2021, and in July 2022, the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja sentenced him to 16 years in prison after finding him guilty on several counts involving the assaul¥t of a 14-year-old g+rl.
A widely circulated though still unverified video shared across Facebook, Instagram, and X on Saturday appears to show the actor seated inside a vehicle shortly after his release. In the clip, the man believed to be Baba Ijesha expresses relief, saying he needs rest.
In a phone conversation captured in the video, he says in Yoruba: “Apase, I’m out… I just came out. I want to relax. I just want to leave here, so I decided to inform you. Thank you for supporting me. I will call you.”
Meanwhile, his friend and fellow actor, Yomi Fabiyi, announced the development in an Instagram post on Friday, celebrating the Appeal Court’s decision. Fabiyi described the ruling as one that brought “clarity” to what he believes was a mishandled case.
According to him, the judgment “clears” the actor and serves as a reminder of the importance of fairness, due process, and the protection of rights in cases involving minors. “He is not just back but better,” Fabiyi wrote.
