How true is this? 🤔Seun Kuti Says Success Today Is 2% Talent, 5% Hardwork and 93% PR

Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has said success in today’s entertainment industry depends more on public relations than talent or hard work.

Speaking on the Dear Ife podcast hosted by Ifedayo Agoro, Seun explained that he never struggled to find his voice as an artist, crediting his upbringing by his late father, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, for shaping his individuality.

“My dad raised us to be too much of individuals for us not to find our voice or our feet in this world,” he said, adding that he already had a clear vision of who he wanted to be.

When asked if he used public relations strategies to push his voice further, Seun said he is only now learning the “PR game,” noting that the modern era places far more emphasis on visibility than ability.

“This new age is 2% talent, 5% hard work and 93% PR,” he stated.

Responding to a suggestion that this reality is sad, Seun disagreed, saying it simply requires adaptation. “It’s not sad. You just need to learn it. I like to learn, so I’m learning and getting better,” he said.

To illustrate his point, the singer referenced a celebrity restaurateur, arguing that fame and branding often outweigh product quality.

While stressing that he had never eaten at the celebrity restaurant, Seun noted that the chef’s global recognition is driven largely by PR rather than the food itself.

According to him, anyone hoping to succeed in any field must understand and master public relations in today’s world.
