The Enugu State Police Command has sparked outrage in the Muslim community after arresting the Director of the Islamic Centre, Uwani, Alhaji Musa Ani, 74, and the Sarikin Hausawa of Enugu, Alhaji Suleiman Haruna Sule, over an alleged ₦100 million emb£zzlement.
According to reports, both are being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), but the community insists the allegation is a “trumped-up” attempt to embarrass Islamic leadership.
According to a petition by the Civil Rights Realisation and Advancement Network (CRRAN) to the National Security Adviser, the arrests began on Friday, February 27, following a complaint from a tenant, Alhaji Ezeani Ibrahim. When the Sarikin Hausawa visited the police to seek bail for Ani the next day, he was also detained by order of the Commissioner of Police.
