Senator Ireti Kingibe has reacted strongly to remarks made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who recently declared that he would ensure she does not secure re-election in 2027.

Speaking during an interview with Nigeria Info FM, the senator criticized the minister’s conduct and described his approach to politics as troubling. According to Kingibe, Wike’s actions and statements reflect what she referred to as a “god complex,” suggesting that he behaves as though he has unchecked power.

The disagreement between the two prominent political figures has drawn attention in recent months, particularly because both hold influential positions within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). While Wike oversees the administration of the territory as minister, Kingibe represents the FCT in the Nigerian Senate.

During the interview, Kingibe referenced comments by Wike in which he allegedly vowed to prevent her from returning to the Senate in the next election cycle. Reacting to those remarks, the senator questioned the appropriateness of such statements from a public official responsible for overseeing governance in the territory.

She argued that political competition should be determined by voters rather than by the influence of individuals in positions of authority. According to her, threats about electoral outcomes undermine democratic principles and could create unnecessary political tension within the capital.

Kingibe further explained that Wike’s behavior during the recent FCT council elections reminded her of a scene from a documentary she once watched about former Ugandan leader Idi Amin. She said the incident portrayed in the documentary left a lasting impression on her and appeared similar to what she believes she observed in the minister’s political style.
