Joshua Iginla, the leader of Champions Royal Assembly, has delivered a timely message to Nigeria’s political class and their followers as election preparations begin to intensify. He highlighted the urgent need for self-control and caution, noting that the atmosphere surrounding political activities can easily turn volatile if it is not handled with a sense of responsibility. His primary concern centers on how easily campaign rallies and public gatherings can shift from peaceful events into scenes of disorder or violence.

The cleric emphasized that political competition should be rooted in discussing issues rather than attacking personalities. He warned against strategies that rely on public humiliation or hostility toward opponents, as these tactics often trickled down to supporters and spark broader social tension. According to him, party leaders have a significant duty to keep their followers disciplined to prevent situations where objects are thrown or leaders are physically targeted during rallies. Maintaining public peace should be prioritized over winning at any cost.

Regarding the frequent movement of politicians between different parties, Iginla offered a blunt perspective on the current trend of defections. He noticed that many individuals are currently flocking toward specific platforms they perceive as guaranteed winners. However, he cautioned these politicians to be wary of their choices, suggesting that the political landscape is often unpredictable and those jumping ship might find themselves in a difficult position. He specifically used the metaphor of holding onto a life jacket, implying that the party currently seen as the safest bet might face unexpected challenges.
