Inmate Escapes As Vehicle Conveying Prisoners Cr@shes In Yobe
The Nigerian Correctional Service in Yobe State has declared an inmate wanted after he escaped following a road acc+dent involving a vehicle transporting prisoners from Potiskum to Damaturu.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Adamu, the escape occurred on April 13 when the prison vehicle cr@shed during an inmate transfer operation.
“The general public is hereby notified that the Nigerian Correctional Service Yobe State command has confirmed the escape of an inmate from the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Potiskum,” the statement said.
The service explained that the inmate fled amid the confusion caused by the cr@sh. “The unfortunate incident occurred while efforts are being made to rescue the affected acc+dent victims. The individual managed to flee the scene of the acc+dent,” it added.
The escaped inmate has been identified as Dahiru Mohammed, 30, from Askiwari village via Tarmuwa. He was admitted into custody on November 29, 2024, with prison number J/1539/24.
Authorities described him as dangerous and warned the public to avoid any contact with him. “The escaped individual is considered dangerous and members of the public are advised not to have any personal dealings with him,” the statement warned.
