Tinubu Sacks Wale Edun, Appoints Taiwo Oyedele as New Finance Minister
President Bola Tinubu has dismissed Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, as well as Umar Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, in a fresh cabinet reshuffle.
The announcement was contained in a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
According to the memo, Mr Taiwo Oyedele has been appointed to take over as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State for Finance.
The memo also named Dr Muttaqha Rabe Darma as Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development. It directed Umar Dangiwa to formally hand over to the Minister of State within the ministry.
It further stated that all handover and takeover activities must be concluded on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Explaining the development, Akume said the changes are aimed at improving coordination in government and strengthening delivery of economic policies under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the President acted within his constitutional authority as provided under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The Presidency also appreciated the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours, noting that the process of government reinvigoration would continue.
