Economic Hardship: If you’ve lost sleep and weight, I have lost some too in this job — President Tinubu informs Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has accepted the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential nomination for the 2027 general election after emerging winner of the party’s primary.

Speaking after his victory, he reflected on the challenges of governance and ongoing reforms, saying, “I know what it takes to reform this nation we met in tatters. If you lost sleep, I’ve lost some too. If you’ve lost weight, I’ve lost some too.”

He assured Nigerians of his continued commitment to delivering on his mandate despite the difficulties involved. “But I’ve always remembered one thing: in 2022, I asked for this job. You all supported me and I got it. So I must do it,” he said.

Tinubu expressed appreciation to APC members for the renewed trust, stating, “I accept with profound humility and gratitude the nomination of our great party, the APC, to stand again as your presidential candidate in the 2027 election.”

Recalling the conduct of the primary election, he said he monitored events across the country after voting in Lagos, praising the turnout and peaceful atmosphere. “I was glued to the television after voting. I saw the mammoth crowd in Kano and Kaduna, the city boy walking the streets of Calabar,” he said.

He added that the peaceful nature of the exercise was encouraging for Nigeria’s democracy, noting, “It was a good feeling to see that there was no bl%odshed, no rancour. This is politics in earnest. This is where we want Nigeria, facing one focus.”
