Newly employed Chef Dr¥gs Abuja Family with sleeping pills, Steals ₦150m Luxury Watches and Cash

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a chef, identified as John Cosmos Govi, over an alleged plot to dr¥g residents of a home in Abuja and cart away luxury items worth about ₦150 million.

According to the police, the suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) following investigations into allegations of criminal conspiracy, housebreaking, th£ft, and the administration of suspected h@rmful substances.

Preliminary findings revealed that Govi, who reportedly attended a catering school in Cotonou, Benin Republic, gained employment as a chef in the residence after allegedly connecting with two accomplices identified simply as Peter and Moses, who are currently on the run.

Police said the suspect allegedly monitored the household’s routine, movements, and security structure before carrying out the operation on April 23, 2026.

Investigators further disclosed that meals prepared in the residence were allegedly laced with a suspected sedative substance meant to incapacitate the occupants and security personnel. After the substance reportedly took effect, the suspect allegedly allowed his accomplices into the house.

The gang was said to have vandalised the CCTV monitoring system, ransacked the apartment, and made away with cash and 20 luxury wristwatches valued at approximately ₦150 million.

Police operatives later intercepted the suspects while they were reportedly attempting to flee through the Gwagwalada area en route to Lagos.

During the operation, an iPhone 17 Pro Max belonging to the victim was recovered, alongside a suspected chemical substance which has been sent for forensic analysis.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to tackling organised crime and ensuring all suspects connected to the incident are brought to justice.
