In a recent interview on Arise TV, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Dr. Sam Amadi, Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, discussed the strategic calculations that could shape the opposition’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election. Amadi argued that choosing a running mate is one of the most critical decisions any presidential candidate can make. According to him, beyond experience and public visibility, candidates must consider regional influence, political networks, and the ability of a potential running mate to withstand intense political competition in key battleground areas.

Speaking during the interview, Amadi stated, “Nyesom Wike is going to be brutal, and he has the capacity to outwit him in 2027.” He made the remark while assessing the possible strengths and weaknesses associated with former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as a potential vice-presidential contender.
According to Amadi, politics in Rivers State and the broader South-South region remains highly competitive, with influential figures possessing extensive political structures and years of experience in electoral mobilization. He suggested that any candidate seeking to make significant gains in the region must be prepared for an intense contest and a sophisticated political environment.
Amadi further explained that electoral success depends not only on a candidate’s personal popularity but also on strategic organization, coalition-building, and the ability to respond effectively to political opponents. He noted that experienced political actors often rely on established networks and grassroots support to maintain their influence.
