Abacha’s Death: The Girl Arrested Told Me Directly That She Did Not Kill Him-Dennis Amachree Reveals

Dennis Amachree, a retired Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), has provided an account of the circumstances surrounding the death of former Head of State, General Sani Abacha, explaining how intelligence officers tracked down and interrogated a woman believed to have been one of the last individuals with him before his demise.

In a video shared on the official TVC YouTube channel on June 8, 2026, Amachree addressed enduring speculation about Abacha’s sudden death and outlined the steps taken by security agencies during their investigation at the time.

Recounting the interrogation, he said, “They arrested her and brought her, and when she came into my office, the first thing she said was, ‘I did not kill him,’ but she knew he was dead before she left,” describing the tense exchange that followed her arrival.

According to him, the woman in question was the younger sister of a female associate closely linked to the late military leader. He explained that acting on directives from DSS headquarters in Abuja, operatives traced her to Lagos and subsequently brought her to the state command for questioning.

Amachree stated that although she appeared visibly distressed, she consistently denied any involvement in Abacha’s death. He added that findings from the investigation suggested that the former Head of State likely died from a sudden medical incident rather than any form of foul play.

The retired DSS official further noted that he included these details in his recently published book to counter long-standing rumours and clarify misconceptions surrounding the event. He emphasized the importance of accurate historical documentation and firsthand testimony in preserving Nigeria’s political history for future generations.
