Woman accused of w+tchcraft d+es after son reportedly sets her abl@ze
A middle-aged man, identified as Emmanuel Akposi, has been declared wanted after allegedly dousing his elderly mother, Mrs Atim Akposi, also known as Atim Eyo, with fuel and setting her abl@ze in Ojo community, Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The incident occurred on Friday, August 14, leaving the woman with severe b¥rns. She was initially taken to a community health centre in Ojo before being transferred to Akamkpa General Hospital and later the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), where she reportedly d+ed in the early hours of Monday.
Family sources said the att@ck followed years of accusations by Emmanuel that his mother was a witch and responsible for the d+ath of his child.
According to reports , his elder brother, Eyo Akposi, alleged that Emmanuel had repeatedly accused their mother of witchcraft, claiming that some pastors had told him she was responsible for the child’s death.
Eyo said Emmanuel had confronted their mother several times and allegedly attempted to harm her before the fatal att@ck.
According to him, Emmanuel entered his mother’s room on the day of the incident and allegedly tried to strangle her. When she resisted, he reportedly hit her, causing her to fall, before pouring fuel on her and setting her abl@ze. He then fled the scene.
Neighbours reportedly raised the alarm and rushed the victim to the hospital. Eyo said he was alerted after receiving a video of the attack and instructed relatives to transfer her to UCTH for further treatment, where she later d+ed.
The matter has been reported to the Uyanga Divisional Police Station, Akamkpa, which has commenced investigation and launched a manhunt for the suspect.
