A man accused of assa¥lting a young woman after she turned down his romantic advances has been arrested by the police in Abuja, following widespread public outrage over a viral video of the incident.
The arrest came a day after the woman shared an emotional video on social media, alleging that the older man slapped her because she refused his request to get to know her. The video quickly gained traction online, sparking condemnation and calls for the suspect to be brought to justice.
According to updates shared after the incident, police tracked the suspect to his location. He reportedly attempted to avoid arrest by hiding from officers but was eventually apprehended. Videos circulating online show the man apologising after he was found, but he was still taken into police custody.
Reacting to the development, the victim stressed the importance of respecting women’s boundaries, writing, “No means No, and the sooner some men start respecting women’s boundaries, the better our society will become.”
Police are expected to continue investigations into the case.
