NFF sacks Super Falcons coach and technical crew days after World Cup miss
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sacked Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu and members of his technical crew following the team’s disappointing campaign at the recently concluded 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The decision was taken by the NFF Executive Committee after the Falcons crashed out at the quarter-final stage of the tournament.
The team also missed out on automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup after losing to South Africa in their playoff qualifier.
Confirming the decision in a terse statement on its official X account, the NFF directed Madugu and his technical crew to step down with immediate effect.
“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect,” the statement read.
Madugu guided the Super Falcons to their 10th WAFCON title last year, but their bid for an 11th title was marred by poor preparations, internal team incidents and underwhelming performances from some key players in Morocco.
The coach was initially appointed as the Super Falcons’ interim head coach in September 2024 before securing a two-year contract in October 2025 following his WAFCON triumph.
He now leaves the role after two years in charge of the nine-time African champions.
