Country music icon Dolly Parton, one of the most celebrated singers, songwriters and entertainers in the world, has d+ed at the age of 80.

According to TMZ, Parton was admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville early Friday morning while dealing with kidney and autoimmune issues. She reportedly d+ed at the hospital on Tuesday, although the exact cause of death has not been disclosed.

Her head of security announced her d+ath on Instagram, prompting an outpouring of tributes for the legendary entertainer whose career spanned more than six decades.

Parton had acknowledged experiencing health challenges in recent months. In an interview with PEOPLE last week, she said she had been “dealing with some health issues” that she had neglected while caring for her late husband, Carl Dean, who d+ed in March 2025.

She also revealed that she had gone through difficult periods with her health before but continued working while recovering.

The country music legend had recently scaled back some of her public commitments, including canceling a planned Las Vegas residency and a Dollywood appearance earlier this month after her doctor advised her not to travel due to dehydration and occasional dizziness.

Parton leaves behind an extraordinary musical legacy, with timeless hits including Jolene, 9 to 5 and I Will Always Love You. Beyond music, she built a successful entertainment and business empire and became one of the most beloved figures in popular culture.
