Trump imposes 100% Tariff on Foreign-Made Movies

U.S. President Donald Trump has again declared a 100 percent tariff on films produced outside the United States, a move he says is aimed at protecting Hollywood from foreign competition.

In a Truth Social post on Monday, Trump accused other countries of “st+aling” America’s film industry, comparing it to “st+aling candy from a baby.” He argued that California, under what he described as a weak and ineffective governor, has s¥ffered the most from the industry’s decline.

“To solve this long-standing problem, I will be imposing a 100% tariff on all movies made outside of the United States,” Trump wrote, signing off with his signature slogan: “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

The announcement comes months after a similar declaration in May, when Trump described the outsourcing of film production as a national security threat. At the time, he claimed that tax incentives and cheaper costs abroad were luring producers away from the U.S., weakening Hollywood.

Trump said he had directed the Commerce Department to begin implementation, but details of how the policy would work and when it might take effect remain unclear. It is also uncertain whether the latest announcement represents an expansion of May’s proposal or simply a reinforcement of it.
