Economic and social activities were temporarily brought to a halt in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, led a massive campaign rally for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chairmanship candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Dr. Moses Paul, popularly known as Dr. Mo.
The campaign train, which saw the convergence of thousands of enthusiastic supporters, moved through major economic hubs in Abuja, including the Sawmill and Gudu markets. The crowd, largely made up of youths and traders, refused to disperse even as evening approached, chanting solidarity songs and declaring their readiness for the February council polls.
Addressing the mammoth crowd, Peter Obi urged the residents of AMAC to vote for credibility and competence over party lines. He described Dr. Mo as a leader with the practical solutions needed to tackle the insecurity, poor infrastructure, and poverty plaguing the area council.
“We are talking about a new Nigeria, and it starts from the grassroots. You must vote for someone who feels your pain and has the capacity to deliver. Do not look at the party; look at the individual. Dr. Mo represents the credible leadership we are fighting for,” Obi told the cheering supporters.
The rally was further electrified by the presence of the outspoken Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who joined Peter Obi in mobilizing voters for the ADC candidate. Senator Abaribe warned the electoral umpire, INEC, that the people of the FCT are wide awake and will protect their votes at all costs.
Dr. Mo, in his address, thanked the political heavyweights for their cross-party endorsement, promising the residents of AMAC that his administration would prioritize service delivery and grassroots development. The unprecedented crowd has sent a strong signal that the upcoming AMAC election will be a major test of strength for opposition forces ahead of 2027.
