The Federal Executive Council durng its weekly meeting approved contracts for the rehabilitation of 110,000 b/d Kaduna and the 125,000 b/d Warri refineries.

The contract was awarded at a cost of $1.4 billion.

According to the break down, $897 million will be used for the Warri refinery whle $586 million expended on Kaduna refinery.

Nigeria has four refineries – including two in Port Harcourt – but all have struggled to function optimally as the country continues to import petroleum products.

The rehabilitation is expected to turn around the refineries and set them up to meet local oil demands.
