The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have given the Federal Government a seven-day ultimatum to resolve outstanding issues affecting non-academic staff in universities.
In a letter dated September 12, 2025, the unions faulted what they described as the “unjust” disbursement of N50 billion earned allowances, non-payment of outstanding entitlements, and other unresolved labor matters.
The letter, signed by SSANU President Muhammed Ibrahim and NASU General Secretary Peters Adeyemi, reminded the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, of an earlier correspondence dated June 18, 2025, from the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the two unions. That letter, they noted, led to a meeting with the Minister on July 4, 2025, but the issues raised remain unresolved.
According to the unions, the grievances include:
Unfair distribution of earned allowances,
Non-payment of withheld salaries and the approved 25/35% salary increments,
Delay in renegotiating the 2009 FGN/NASU/SSANU agreements.
They warned that failure to address these concerns within seven days, starting Monday, September 15, 2025, would force them to embark on industrial actions, including strikes, to press home their demands.
