Bayelsa Holds Memorial Eve for Late Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha
The people of Bayelsa State on Thursday, October 9, gathered in Amassoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, for a solemn memorial eve in honour of the late Chief Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha, former Governor of Bayelsa State.
The event, organized by the Alamieyeseigha family, featured prayers, candlelight tributes, and the symbolic release of lights into the night sky in remembrance of the man fondly called the “Son of the Soil.”
Family members, friends, associates, and community leaders paid glowing tributes, describing the late governor as a visionary, compassionate, and fearless leader who dedicated his life to the growth of Bayelsa and the advancement of the Ijaw nation.
Chief Alamieyeseigha, who served as Bayelsa’s first democratically elected governor from 1999 to 2005, was instrumental in the establishment of the Niger Delta University (NDU) and several other landmark development projects that continue to shape the state’s progress.
The main memorial service continues today in Amassoma, as Bayelsans and dignitaries gather to honour the enduring legacy of one of the state’s most influential founding leaders.
