In a recent interview shared by Arise News, public affairs analyst Kenny Okolugbo has commented on the shifting possibilities in advance of the 2027 general elections, notably within the developing opposition coalition.

The strategic considerations underpinning coalitions including major political players like Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Atiku Abubakar were emphasized by Okolugbo. The success of any coalition, in his opinion, will be greatly influenced by how effectively political players control their ambitions and align with current political realities, taking into account voters’ expectations and regional issues.

If not arranged properly, some combinations might reduce the opposition’s chances, he cautioned. The risk of fragmentation within the opposition bloc was highlighted when he said, “The minute Atiku gets the ticket, they will have self-imploded if the ticket is given to Peter Obi and he runs with Kwankwaso. “

The analyst said that the fact that several formidable candidates from different parties are vying for presidential tickets might split the vote and diminish the overall competitiveness of opposition groups against the governing party. He emphasized that unity, compromise, and strategic zoning are still essential components for creating a strong challenge.

Additionally, Okolugbo noted that the opposition might find it difficult to maintain a united front in the absence of a strong consensus among its leaders. The choices that will be made in the next few months will have a big impact on how Nigeria’s elections in 2027 will turn out, according to observers, as political activity increases.
