The Grand Mufti of Yoruba land, Sheikh Daood Molaasan, has criticised comments attributed to activist Sunday Igboho, in which he suggested he could confront armed b@ndits if given the opportunity.
Sheikh Molaasan questioned the credibility of such public claims, arguing that individuals with genuine capacity to deal with armed groups would not need to announce it beforehand.
“If someone truly has the power to face the bandits there will be no need to announce it first,” he said.
He added that real capability would be demonstrated through action rather than public declarations, insisting that such individuals would “simply disappear and appear wherever the bandits are” instead of making statements.

The cleric also referenced historical tensions and coexistence between Ile-Ife and Modakeke, noting that both communities have not been defined by persistent vi%lence or brutality toward one another.
He further commented on a reported encounter involving operatives of the Department of State Services during which he claimed the activist scaled a fence and fled from the premises, suggesting that security agents acted with restraint.
In his remarks, he said:
“DSS are even merciful, they won’t just sh++t, but bandits don’t know law they’ll just sh++t you.”
