I Will Retire From Politics After My Tenure; I Want The Young People To Take Over — Abia Governor, Alex Otti

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has said he will retire from active politics after completing his tenure, stressing that he wants younger Nigerians to have the opportunity to take over leadership.

Otti made the statement on Thursday in Umuahia while speaking about good governance and political succession. He said effective governance gives citizens a reason to reject any attempt to return to what he described as the “old order.”

“Once I finish this one, I will retire. Why do I say so? I want the young people to take over,” Otti said.

The governor also ruled out seeking a Senate seat or any other political position after his tenure, saying he was not interested in continuing his political career.

Otti further rejected the idea of becoming a political godfather, saying, “I don’t want to be a godfather. And I don’t tolerate godfathers.”

He called for an end to what he described as the “sit-tight” approach to politics, arguing that younger people are increasingly better trained and equipped to contribute to governance.

“We should stop this sit-tight; it’s only you. Not only you, it also can’t be only you. There are smarter, more trained, better trained, better equipped younger people. Our children, we need to give them opportunities,” he said.
