Wike: When People Go Low Go Into Gutters, I Don’t Go With Them - Makinde Fires Back

In a video posted by Symfoni TV, Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, was asked questions about the recent remarks made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike but stressed that he does not engage in personal conflicts, noting that when people go low or take issues to the gutters, he chooses not to follow them.

Makinde also spoke about efforts to reconcile aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor emphasized that democracy thrives on dialogue, which is why the PDP will continue to reach out to its members despite disagreements. He explained that political differences should not be taken personally but should instead focus on what leaders can collectively deliver to Nigerians.

According to him, the recent election results in Oyo State showed that the PDP remains strong, with the party securing a solid performance in several states.

Makinde highlighted that in most of the 12 states contested, the PDP came second, which signals that the party still has significant influence.

He urged members to remain committed, work harder, and continue uniting for the future of the party, expressing confidence that Nigerians will eventually begin to listen more closely to the PDP’s message.

In his words, “See, personally, when people go low, or they go into the gutters, I don’t go with them. I can disagree with people, but it should not be anything personal here.”

“It should be about what we are giving to Nigerians, because they are watching. We want to give a PDP. In Oyo State, they showed last Saturday that PDP is not dead.”

“In most other places of the 12 states, PDP came second. And in each of those states, it’s some indication to us that if we continue to work hard, if we continue to strive hard, if we continue to bring our people together, we’ll get to a point where Nigerians will really start listening to us.”
